Katarina Witt started ice skating at the age of five. Then, her talent were evident and she was accepted into Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. The coach Jutta was also in attendance. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Her grace and elegance captured everybody's eye at that time, and from then onwards she was dominating the sport. Olympic victory Katarina Wit was awarded gold medals in ice skating for women during the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. Then, four years after the event, she was able to take home an even tighter race. Although she lost in the free-skating contest, medal was given to her for her performance on the compulsory figures and the program in short form. Witt is the first female figure skater to win the same event twice in the same year since Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes as an acting career, however, she returned to her sports in order to compete during her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. In spite of not receiving the gold medal, she impressed the crowd. Witt received her induction to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
